Exit Polls Banned In Telangana: EC Notification Marks Ban Period

In the wake of assembly elections in five states across the country, the Central Election Commission has issued a notification banning exit polls in states where the Election Code is in force. The ban will be in effect from 7 am on November 7 to 6.30 pm on November 30. The EC said exit polls cannot be conducted, advertised or published while the Election Code is in force.

Punishment For Violators

According to the Election Commission, violators of the rules are liable to imprisonment of up to two years or a fine or both. The assembly elections in Chhattisgarh will be held in two phases. The first phase of polling will be held on November 7 and the second phase of polling will be held on November 17. Elections will also be held in Mizoram on November 7, Madhya Pradesh on November 17, Rajasthan on November 25 and Telangana on November 30.

EC Team To Arrive In Telangana

As the notification deadline approaches, the Central Election Commission is set to review the election arrangements in the state. For this, the EC team will come to Telangana on Wednesday. A team comprising Senior Deputy Election Commissioners Nitish Vyas and Dharmendra Sharma will visit Hyderabad for two days. The EC team will meet with the state Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj and other officials. The two-member team will enquire about the election arrangements.
