False News on eKYC! People Flooding Gas Agencies in Telangana

The Congress government, which recently came to power in Telangana, promised in its manifesto to provide a gas cylinder for Rs.500. In this background, believing that gas agencies across the state are taking documents for this purpose, consumers are queuing up in front of the respective agencies from 7 AM. People in all districts have stopped working and are standing in line for hours with their gas passbooks and Aadhaar cards. However, officials are saying there is no truth in this news about eKYC.

Gas Scheme has nothing to do with eKYC

The managements of the agencies are saying that they are doing eKYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) to only identify fake customers as per the directives of the central government. They said that there are orders to conduct eKYC of those who avail cylinders under the Deepam and Ujjwala schemes. They clarified that eKYC is a regular process and it has nothing to do with the Rs.500 gas scheme.

eKYC is for fake customers

Every year the number of people using subsidized gas cylinders with fake information in the state is increasing day by day. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas issued a circular within two weeks to conduct eKYC to find out the actual beneficiaries as the central government thought that cylinders should be provided only to the eligible beneficiaries. They have entrusted this responsibility to gas-supplying agencies in every town. As a part of this, they suggested that they should come with their Aadhaar card, put their thumb impression and take a photo to complete the eKYC process. Thus, the central government is trying to stop people from getting gas cylinders in the wrong way.

The public is disregarding the Agencies’ clarification!

Now the gas agencies are busy dealing with people flooding their offices, believing in false rumours. Interestingly, these are the same people who never came for eKYC before despite many requests from the gas agencies. The agencies are saying that those who came there were told that this is not for giving Rs. 500 gas cylinders and only for central government schemes, but still, they are not going back and are standing in long queues, adamantly believing what they heard is true.
