Teenmar Mallanna Secures Victory in Nalgonda-Warangal-Khammam MLC By-Election

Teenmar Mallanna, also known as Chintapandu Naveen, emerged victorious in the Nalgonda-Warangal-Khammam graduate MLC election, supported by the ruling Congress party. The counting process, spanning three days, witnessed the elimination of 43 candidates, including the BJP contender, based on first and second-preference votes. Eventually, the BRS candidate Rakesh Reddy was also eliminated, leading to Teenmar Mallanna’s triumph. The MLC by-election counting commenced at 8 AM on June 5 and concluded at 10:30 PM on Friday.

Rakesh Reddy gave tough competition to Teenmar Mallanna in the second round of voting. However, Teenmar Mallanna maintained a lead from the beginning. BJP candidate Premender Reddy did not contest in any round. Eventually, Teenmar Mallanna’s victory was assured with the elimination of Rakesh Reddy. Mallanna won by a margin of over 14 thousand votes. After midnight on Friday, Returning Officer Dasari Harichandana issued the winning certificate to Mallanna.

20,000 Uncast Second-Preference Votes

Independent candidate Palakuri Ashok and BJP candidate Premender Reddy received a total of 73,110 first-preference votes. However, approximately 20,000 second preference votes were left uncast. Rakesh Reddy, who had hoped these second preference votes would swing in his favour, ultimately lost them and conceded defeat. He expressed gratitude to KCR as well as to all the party workers, leaders, and supporters who backed him. The victory of Teenmar Mallanna brought joy to Congress supporters and his followers, who celebrated by bursting firecrackers.
