RTC Considers Reserving Seats for Men, Proposal Under Discussion

The recent implementation of the Mahalakshmi scheme in Telangana, offering free travel for women in RTC buses, has significantly increased the number of women passengers. Consequently, men are often left standing during their journeys due to the limited seating available. Recognizing this, RTC is now contemplating the allocation of specific seats for men to address the issue. The management is considering reserving 20 seats out of the total 55 in buses for men, a proposal that is currently under discussion among managers across all depots.

However, concerns have been raised about potential opposition to the allotment of seats for men, as there are no existing records of such reservations in the country, except for senior citizens, disabled individuals, and women. Men, on the other hand, have expressed dissatisfaction and concerns about the lack of seats despite purchasing tickets. As a response, officials are evaluating the feasibility of introducing designated seats for men. Concurrently, efforts are underway to increase the overall number of buses in the system.
