World Hindi Day (January 10, 2006)

Hindi, the most widely spoken language globally, was officially recognized on this day when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declared it as ‘World Hindi Day’ in 2006. Since then, Hindi Language Day has been commemorated annually. Hindi is spoken in India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

Nano Car Launch (January 10, 2008)

Tata Motors introduced the ‘Nano car’ on this day, aiming to provide an affordable option for the middle class. Priced remarkably low, it was the world’s first car under One Lakh rupees. However, due to a lackluster response from consumers, production of the Nano car was halted in 2018.

Tashkent Agreement (January 10, 1965)

This day marks the signing of the ‘Tashkent Agreement’ for a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. In 1965, a war erupted when Pakistan attempted to occupy parts of Jammu and Kashmir, leading to 17 days of intense conflict. The Tashkent Agreement, signed on January 10, brought an end to the hostilities.

National Obesity Awareness Week begins today, featuring awareness programs on obesity scheduled throughout the week, from January 10 to 16.
