World Day of War Orphans (January 6)

Today is observed as World Day of War Orphans every year. UNICEF has specially declared this day for children who have lost their parents due to wars. Wars for power and supremacy are taking a toll on mankind. The families of those who lost their lives in the war suffer gravely. This day is dedicated to the welfare of children orphaned due to war.

Mother Teresa comes to India (6 January 1929)

The great humanitarian, Mother Teresa set foot on Indian soil today. On January 6, 1929, Mother Teresa reached Calcutta by sea. In her lifetime, she undertook many relief programs for the poor and those suffering from various diseases in the country. The Government of India honoured her with ‘Bharat Ratna’ for her services.

AR Rahman’s Birthday (6th January 1967)

Today is the birthday of India’s pride, music director AR Rahman. His full name is Allah Rakha Rahman. His birth name is A. S. Dileep Kumar. Rahman, who was born into poverty, has now gained world-class recognition and won an Oscar in 2009. His music has millions of fans in India and around the world.

Kapil Dev’s Birthday (6 January 1959)

Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev’s birthday is also today. Born in 1959 in Chandigarh, Kapil Dev’s full name is Kapil Dev Nikhanj. Born in a poor family, Kapil worked hard to become a cricketer. Captain Kapil Dev, who is an all-rounder, gave India the World Cup in 1983. Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards. Kapil’s name holds unbroken records in the history of cricket.

Actor Uday Kiran’s Death Anniversary

Today is one of the saddest days in the Telugu film industry. Film actor Uday Kiran passed away today in 2014. Born in Hyderabad in 1980, Uday Kiran first worked as a model. He made his debut as a lead actor at the age of 17 and rose to the level as all the films he acted in became huge successes. But some developments put Uday Kiran’s career in jeopardy. There are still many doubts about his suicide.
