Lal Bahadur Shastri took the Oath as Prime Minister

Lal Bahadur Shastri, a prominent freedom fighter and key leader of the Congress Party, was sworn in as the second Prime Minister of India on 9 June 1964. He continued in this post till 11 January 1966.

Birsa Munda Passes Away

Freedom fighter Birsa Munda, who led the Millenarian Movement in the dense forests of Bihar and Jharkhand during the British colonial period, died in a British jail in the year 1900. He declared war against the British at the age of 22.

India’s first IPS female officer Kiran Bedi was born in 1949. Joining the 1972 batch, she introduced several reforms in the police department, contributing significantly to the profession. Kiran Bedi has received numerous awards, including the Magsaysay Award.

Kadiyala Shakuntala is Born

Telugu film actress Kadiyala Shakuntala, popularly known as Telangana Shakuntala, was born in 1951 in Maharashtra. Besides Telugu, she acted in numerous language films and earned considerable recognition. She appeared in over 75 movies during her career.

Ameesha Patel is Born

Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel was born in 1975 in Mumbai. She made her debut in the romantic thriller ‘Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai’ was released in the year 2000. She has acted in Hindi as well as Telugu and Tamil languages.

Acharya NG Ranga Passes Away

Acharya NG Ranga, the father of the peasant movement and a freedom fighter, passed away in 1995. He initiated numerous initiatives for the welfare of farmers. In 1991, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India for his contributions to agriculture.
