Actress Anjali Patil Falls Victim to Cyber Scam: Approaches the Cybercrime Police

In recent times, the surge in cybercrimes has been alarming. Cybercriminals are employing deceptive tactics, such as fraudulent investments and enticing offers, to trap individuals. What’s concerning is that their victims are not limited to the less educated; even well-informed individuals are falling prey to these schemes, resulting in substantial financial losses running into lakhs of rupees. Despite repeated warnings from law enforcement urging vigilance, cybercrimes persist, with new cases regularly coming to light.

Renowned actress Anjali Patil fell victim to cybercriminals, facing a significant financial loss. Known for her work in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Marathi cinema, especially in the film ‘Naa Bangaaru Talli,’ she earned a Nandi Award. In a recent incident on December 28, Anjali received a call from someone named Deepak Sharma, who claimed to be a FedEx employee. He mentioned a seized parcel in Taiwan containing drugs and her Aadhaar card.

Anjali, fearing misuse, contacted the Mumbai Cyber Crime Department. Subsequently, a person named Banerjee from the cyber branch coerced her into transferring 96,525 as a processing fee, followed by an additional 4,83,291 for an ongoing investigation. Realizing that she had been deceived after transferring the money, actress Anjali Patil promptly approached the cybercrime police. A case was registered under sections 419 and 420 of the IPC, and an investigation is currently underway.
