AP Politics: Kapu Community’s Shift Away from Janasena

The political heat has started in Andhra Pradesh as Chandrababu Naidu makes strategic moves for Kapu votes. While Chandrababu Naidu aims to garner Kapu votes by leveraging Pawan Kalyan, the Kapu community is increasingly frustrated with Pawan Kalyan’s actions. Especially in the coastal districts, the Kapu community, which has a strong presence and influence of Kapu movement leader and former minister Mudragada Padmanabham, is completely in a dilemma due to Pawan’s actions. In this context, it is understood that the majority of Kapus are not interested in supporting the Janasena Party.

Disheartened Kapus

For decades, Kapus have been waiting to achieve political power at any cost. While communities like Kamma, Reddy, Velama, Brahmin, Vaishya, and Dalit have managed to secure the Chief Minister’s position, Kapus have struggled to accept that despite being in a position to influence state politics, no one from their community has become the CM so far. Initially, after the formation of the Janasena Party, the majority of the Kapus followed Pawan Kalyan. But his decisions are disappointing the Kapus, leading them, along with the weaker and marginalized communities, to look towards CM YS Jagan. Rumours suggest that without the support of the Kapu community, Pawan’s chances of victory are low.

Pawan’s Ambiguity on Power Sharing

During his visit to Visakhapatnam, Pawan Kalyan did not initially visit Mudragada’s house as promised. However, meeting Mudragada could potentially open discussions on power-sharing for their party. Due to the lack of clarity on this issue and the inability to get permission from Chandrababu Naidu to meet Mudragada, there is widespread speculation among the Kapu community that Pawan Kalyan has deliberately avoided the meeting. This is particularly sensitive because Chandrababu had previously suppressed the Kapus during the agitation for BC reservations in the Godavari districts. The Kapu community is deeply dissatisfied with Pawan’s alliance with Chandrababu, fearing that continuing this alliance might lead to Pawan’s defeat in the upcoming elections, as predicted by political analysts.
