TMC MP Mahua Moitra Expelled From Parliament Over ‘Cash-For-Query’

The Indian Parliament has taken a sensational decision in Mahua Moitra’s ‘Cash-for-Query’ controversy in which she is alleged to have taken money from a businessman to ask questions in the Lok Sabha. Parliament has taken strict action against the accused Trinamool Congress Party MP Mahua Moitra. Speaker Om Birla announced that he was terminating her Lok Sabha membership.

Mahua Moitra was elected on behalf of TMC from Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal. Recently, allegations that Mahua took money from industrialist Hiranandani to ask questions in the Lok Sabha came to light. Her behaviour received severe criticism across the country. The Ethics Committee of the Parliament conducted an inquiry and produced a 500-page report. The committee concluded that Mahua had behaved unethically and was guilty of contempt of the House.

The committee’s report was presented in the Lok Sabha on Friday afternoon as part of the winter session (Parliament Session). The House accepted the resolution of the committee that MP Mahua behaved unethically and disrespectfully. “Due to this, it is not appropriate for her to continue as a member of the Lok Sabha,” said Speaker Om Birla. After the report was approved by word-of-mouth voting, Mahua was expelled from the House. With this, Mahua lost the membership of the Lok Sabha. Mahua expressed anger at this decision. Mahua Moitra was angry that she was not given an opportunity to speak in the Lok Sabha. She plans to move the court against the Speaker’s decision.
