Medigadda Barrage’s Video Goes Viral, Additional Cracks and Raising Concerns

The Lakshmi Barrage, a crucial component of the Kaleshwaram lift project, is facing quality issues, with recent reports indicating significant cracks in the structure. Constructed at Medigadda in Mahadevpur Mandal of Bhupalpally district at a cost of Rs. 3,652 crores, the barrage has experienced extensive cracking, particularly in blocks 6, 7, and 8. Additionally, cement blocks weighing 20 tons were washed away about 100 meters below the barrage. A video highlighting these concerns is circulating on social media.

During the construction phase, allegations were made about cracks at the 20th pillar of the barrage, which were reportedly addressed at that time. The Medigadda Barrage, inaugurated on June 21, 2019, serves as an inter-state bridge facilitating traffic to Sironcha district in Maharashtra. The recent deterioration has raised apprehensions about the project’s structural integrity.
