Kallakuri Narayana Rao’s Birthday
Playwright, social reformer, cinematographer, and Indian nationalist Kallakuri Narayana Rao, born in 1871, earned the honorific title “Mahakavi” (Great Poet). He is celebrated for his impactful plays that addressed social issues, including the acclaimed works ‘Chintamani’, ‘Varavikrayam’, and ‘Madhuseva’. Rao’s novel ‘Varavikrayam’ critiqued the dowry system, and a film of the same name was based on both his novel and play.
