YSRCP’s Effort to End Pension Hardships Meets Opposition from Political Rivals

Elders and disabled individuals are about to face difficulties again. During the TDP regime, to receive pensions, one had to wait at village panchayat offices, school premises, and meeting points. In some places, people had to make rounds for a week. Despite being eligible, pensions were distributed to only a few in the Mandal, cutting off the rest. The chaos created by the Janmabhoomi committees was considerable. They used to deduct Rs. 100 to 200 from the pensions every month, causing various troubles. However, the YSRCP government put a full stop to the hardships of pensioners. However, influential landlords like Chandrababu, Pawan Kalyan, Nimmagadda Ramesh, and the yellow media can’t tolerate this system that benefits the poor. It’s only due to the conspiracies and machinations of the Chandrababu alliance that the elders and disabled are on the verge of facing difficulties again.

TDP leader Chandrababu and also Janasena leader Pawan Kalyan, some major newspapers supported them and wrote biased news. Recently, due to individuals like Nimmagadda Ramesh, elders and disabled who were comfortably receiving pensions at home now have to face difficulties because of TDP conspiracies. In the state, more than 70% of elders, disabled, and those suffering from various diseases exist. Among them, 10% are bedridden. In particular, dialysis and kidney patients can hardly move. Due to TDP conspiracies, from April to June, they have to visit gram and ward secretariats. There’s frustration among many as these individuals now need to be physically carried to secretariats to receive pensions.

While CM Jagan is striving to realize Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of village self-rule, Chandrababu is reportedly harboring a grudge against systems that benefit the poor, especially playing a double game with pensions. He seems to be obstructing pensions on one side, and on the other, he’s sending letters to the Election Commission demanding timely disbursement, which is puzzling. Political analysts are calling out Chandrababu for stooping to new lows for selfish interests. The transparent benefit delivery to the poor through government-appointed volunteers as part of the village and ward secretariat system is not sitting well with TDP and the yellow media. It’s in this backdrop that political maneuvers are being conducted behind the scenes under the guise of the Citizen Democratic Forum.
