Telangana Under Election Code: Massive Cash Seizure Reported

Since the implementation of the election code last month, police and enforcement agencies have been actively conducting raids across Telangana. As a result, from the time the Model Code of Conduct came into effect until now, authorities have seized cash and other items worth Rs. 71.73 crores in the state. As part of this, last week alone saw the seizure of cash, alcohol, and gold valued at Rs. 25.67 crores.

Police, the Income Tax Department, and the Enforcement Directorate have seized cash totalling Rs. 29.31 crores so far. In the first week of this month alone, cash up to Rs. 12.35 crores was seized. Moreover, enforcement agencies have confiscated 3.62 lakh litres of liquor valued at Rs. 9.54 crores to date. Notably, liquor worth Rs. 6.2 crores was seized within a week.

Authorities have seized narcotics worth Rs. 15.49 crores in the state so far. Additionally, the value of gold, silver, and other jewellery seized till now amounts to Rs. 10.33 crores. Officers have also confiscated laptops, cookers, sarees, and similar items, valued up to Rs. 7.04 crores. Meanwhile, elections for 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana are scheduled to take place on May 13.
