CBN’s Conspiracy Against DBT Disbursals: Pressure on EC in the Name of Election Code?

Chandrababu and his allies are causing significant hardships to pensioners already. Chandrababu succeeded in hindering pension distribution by distancing volunteers from the public through his political manoeuvring. Recently, Chandrababu has devised another scheme. The YSRCP suspects that CBN is applying pressure on the Election Commission to halt the final instalment of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) payments under welfare schemes. With the onset of the election code, funds for ‘Jagananna Vidya Deevena’ and ‘Law Nestham’ were suspended for students, leaving many awaiting these funds. The Andhra Pradesh government is making earnest efforts to disburse these DBT payments. As part of this, the government has already sought approval from the Election Commission for the final phase payments. However, no permission has been granted by the Election Commission thus far. Should permission be granted, funds will be transferred to numerous accounts with the press of a button.

The Obstructive Tactics of TDP Leaders

YSRCP leaders assert that the ongoing schemes from the past five years will not be affected by the election code. They allege that pressure is being exerted on EC by Chandrababu and his associates. Nevertheless, before the election code came into effect in March, 70 to 80 percent of DBT payments had been completed. The remaining payments were halted following the enforcement of the election code. YSRCP leaders claim that TDP and its allies aim to obstruct these payments, and due to pressure on the EC, under the guise of the election code, payments to remaining beneficiaries have ceased. In this matter, the state government wrote to the Election Commission 15 days ago, stating that all these schemes have been operational for the last five years and requested permission to continue them.

Similar to Pension Issue…

YSRCP leaders criticize the change in circumstances after the TDP and Janasena’s alliance with the BJP. However, the state government has urged the Central Election Commission to consider the beneficiaries’ plight due to stalled schemes and permit immediate action. Allegedly, TDP is blocking other schemes like pensions without giving their consent to the EC for their disbursal. The suspension of ‘Dwakra’ payments has already unfairly affected women. Similarly, payments to some students under the ‘Vidya Deevena’ scheme have ceased, leading to difficulties in paying college fees. Additionally, TDP and its allies are hindering the payment of input subsidies, ‘YSR Cheyutha’ and ‘EBC Nestham’. As a result, beneficiaries are facing severe difficulties.
