Novak Djokovic’s shock exit from AO semis: Flattened by Italian Jannik Sinner

Defending champion Novak Djokovic suffered a shocking defeat at the Australian Open. Italian youngster Jannik Sinner defeated Djokovic 6-1, 6-2, 7-6, 6-3 in the men’s singles semifinals. Thus he stopped Djokovic’s winning streak of 33 matches in the Australian Open.

Serbian master Djokovic, who won the Australian Open Grand Slam title a record 10 times, looked like an ordinary player in front of Sinner today. He exploded with serves, backhands and forehands. However, Djokovic counterattacked in the third set taking the set to a tiebreaker and won. But Sinner was all over him in the fourth set. After breaking Djokovic’s serve several times, Sinner eventually won the match.

Most notably, this is the first time that Janic Sinner has reached the final of a Grand Slam Open in his career. Sinner will face one of Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev in Sunday’s final. Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev will meet in the second semifinal today.
