Election Commissioner’s Security Bolstered After Intelligence Warnings

Before the Lok Sabha elections, the central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, appointed Rajeev Kumar as the Chief Election Commissioner, ensuring the integrity of the election process. Based on the intelligence bureau’s report, the Ministry of Home Affairs approved the security clearance for him. Following the protocol for security clearance, a total of 33 individuals, including CRPF commanders, have been authorized for security clearance.

Wherever Rajeev Kumar goes in the country, he will be accompanied by six gunmen. Additionally, ten personnel will be stationed at his residence for protection. Opposition parties like the Trinamool Congress have been protesting against the Election Commission, leading to an increase in security for Rajeev Kumar.

Rajeev Kumar is a retired IAS officer from the 1984 batch. He assumed the responsibilities of the 25th Chief Election Commissioner on May 15, 2022. He was appointed as an Election Commissioner in the Election Commission on September 1, 2020.
