RBI Announces Key Update on Rs. 2,000 Notes

The Reserve Bank of India has made a crucial announcement regarding Rs. 2,000 notes. It has been clarified that 97.69% of these notes have returned to the banking system. Only Rs. 8,202 crores worth of Rs. 2,000 notes, out of the discontinued ones, are yet to return. Before this announcement, Rs. 2,000 notes worth Rs. 3.56 lakh crores were in circulation. According to the details received till the last day of the month, notes valued at Rs. 8,202 crores have not yet returned.

It is known that on May 19th of the previous year, the RBI announced the withdrawal of Rs. 2,000 notes from circulation. Permission was granted until September 30th to exchange or deposit these notes at banks, and later, the deadline was extended to October 7th. Subsequently, RBI offices in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, and Thiruvananthapuram provided facilities to deposit these notes.
